Single and the City

I went to my first Singles mixer in Manhattan on Tuesday. It was all firemen!!! Very interesting...and actually plenty of cute guys. Lots of "meat heads" but good eye candy. And I have never had so many drinks bought for me...the guys must have drank free :-) There is another event in a few weeks - a roof top party this time. So, my search for the perfect man in NYC continues!!!!

There are the smiling girls! Why does Katie look so drunk? She really seemed like the most sober of the bunch. HaHa, pictures the next day are always so funny.

I went to upstate New York this past weekend with Melinda. Her parents have a house there. It was nice to get away from the city - out to the "country". I took Nobie up to hang out with her dog, we went to the lake, painted our toenails and went to the local small-town bar. Got hit on by some real losers that wouldn't get the clue. Free drink out of it though. Until next time...
How cute - like a drowned rat!

Mojitos in the East Village

Well, dating in NYC is always an interesting adventure...
So, we made plans on Wednesday night for Saturday. I left it up to him to plan the where and when. As of yesterday morning around noonish I realized that I hadn't heard from him. I kinda assumed that maybe it was off. Which is not unusual given men. No skin off my back, there is a new man on every corner. Heehee. ANYWAY
Five o'clock rolls around and then I get a text from him. Ok, so that is how dating in Manhattan goes I guess. I didn't have anything else to do so I figured what the hell. I took the subway into the city, the East Village to be specific. Very interesting part of the city, tons of bars and tons of people. He said to meet him at the Yuca Bar. I guess somehow I got confused and went to the Luca Bar. What are the odds that those would be within 2 blocks of each other? So, I finally found him and he is cuter than I remember :-) Always a bonus. Two mojitos later - and yes, they were strong - we were kissing at the bar. After one sangria I went home. We have plans to go to the Yankee game on Thursday night. I will keep you guys posted.

Trying Vegan

Well, for at least one month. That is what I have told myself. It has been about 3 days now and so far so good. I went to Trader Joes today to stock up on meatless "meat" products and vegan cheese. Soy milk in my coffee actually isnt bad, especially if you buy the vanilla kind. I even found a dairy free ice cream...yet to try it, but in this heat anything cold will likely taste great :-)
I have only turned on the AC a few times so far. It has been staying in the mid 80s most of the time and I am really missing the rain now. July and August are supposed to be the hottest months, I think and hope. At least it isn't 109 like Texas!
So, not too much else super exciting. I am sitting on my porch right now reading and working on my tan. The apartment complex looks like they are gearing up for another big cook-out. Maybe I will mingle later...

Lara's visit

Lara was here this weekend - sorta for work but she turned it into a girls weekend. Of course we went out - found this neat little bar in Manhattan that has a Texas theme! Rodeo bar - very hot bartender. And you can get PBR in a can. Sweet!!!!!
We had lunch in little Italy today and I ate way too much. Then we headed into Chinatown to buy knock off purses! Heehee. The weather has been super awesome. Earlier this week I spent the whole day in Central Park reading. I have yet to find me a New York man but will maybe start getting a bit more serious about that. Tons of boys and talking to a lot but just haven't found any to see more than once. Hahaha.

Did I mention how much I love living in the city???

Last weekend

So, Brooke finally made it here in one piece. Angela left Brooklyn not all in one piece, heehee. . That sucks. No fun. Who knew the human head could bleed so much????? But seriously, she was fine after a night in the ER. Koodos to my local hospital. Very efficient at whatever time it was when we finally got there...

She wouldn't let me take a picture of her face, but this is what is left of her pants on the walk home the next morning. Her knee was pretty jacked up!

It kinda looks like we were doing watered down shots of Pepto Bismol. Gross. What is really depressing is that the bartender there introduced me as a "regular" to their newest employee. Ugh! I don't even think they called me a regular at Bobby V's in Arlington.

We also went to the gay pride parade last weekend. Pretty fun, and tons of great people watching. Beer through a straw on the 5th Ave, good times.

I love hot gay men. At least they are pretty open about letting me see and sometimes touch their nice bodies. Yummy. Last night I am pretty sure I molested a guy in the bar's bathroom after drinking PBR all night. At least he was hot! I love tattoos. And I love Brooklyn.

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all fathers! I completely forgot it was today until someone reminded me last night. Miss you dad!

I made it to another Yankees game last Sunday - it was a 1pm day game, those are always tons of fun. Yankees vs. Mets and the Yankees killed 'em 15-0. Why is cold beer and hotdogs better in a baseball stadium? Melinda and I went to Stan's afterwards...that is becoming a theme. 2/2 now with Stan's. We rode the Subway this time and had very inappropriate conversation the whole way there and back. They should make that a reality show...sex talk on the Subway. Hmm, maybe I should contact Hollywood???
These are my fav pics from the game. Yes - I am a mature doctor!

It has been raining like crazy here and I am missing the sun a bit. Tuesday should start to get better with sun and 80s. I keep waiting for a good hot weekend to make it to a local beach. Otherwise, not much happening with Kara. Nothing exciting on the man front. I am trying to be really good with my diet and exercise for my "marathon season". OH! Brooke is moving here next weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stay tuned because I am sure I will have really good stuff to blog about after next week. Angela is helping Brooke drive her stuff up :-0

It has been awhile...

Yeah - so, sorry about that. I did a lot of traveling in the past few weeks. I went to visit an old friend in Virginia after Labor Day - fun but I learned I should just not revisit ex-boyfriends that tend to remain clingy :-) Those who know me know the whole story!

Then last week I went to Chicago to visit Rob - much better visit. We went to a Cubs game, they lost damn it! I can't get my pics from the game off my camera because they saved on the internal memory and I can't freaking figure out how to switch them over to the memory card. Ugh! Electronics! Tons of fun though, baseball, drinking. I got a mani-pedi, etc etc.
SO - from Chicago to Montreal!!!! ACVIM (annual neurology meeting) was there this year and I got to use my passport. Yippie! Vacation paid for by work, what can be better??? Yes, I went to meeting. Yes, I had more drinks that lectures. Thank god I was in town for the beer festival! I hung out with my friend from Colorado - Holly - Internal medicine specialist extraordinaire!!! Met a cute guy with a green mohawk who spoke French. Overall an awesome trip that I have been recovering from all week. Whew!!!

Can you tell we have been out in the sun all afternoon drinking beer ??? Sedacca you should have been there!!!! Damn

The image from the right was from my hotel room - some really old neat church in downtown. Room service was my favorite part. Did you know they will deliver a bottle of wine all by itself :-)

I promise there will be more blogs after this weekend. Some good stuff coming up! The Intern party for work on Saturday evening. Sunday is the Yankees / Mets game at Yankee stadium. Yippie Yippie. Supposed to be good weather this weekend. OH - Man update : Manhattan man fizzled out "he's just not that into you" but the feeling was pretty mutual. BUT there is a Jersey man on the horizon with the first date set for next week. Keep tuned for updates!!!!

Go Yankees!

Go Yankees! Nine in a row! Went to my first Yankee game last night in the Bronx last night vs. the Orioles. I loved it, but then again I just love baseball when the weather is awesome! Look at that sky - all blue and no clouds. So what if beers are $9 each? That is why I go with my boss cuz pays for everything! Perk of the job, I guess. I went with the boss, visiting vet, one of the owners and his family. Way fun! Could living in New York City get any better? And the cab ride through Manhattan to get to the Bronx was a perfect start to the evening. Yankee fans are crazy too, did I mention that? Very different from the Mets - if I have to choose I obviously would say I am more of a Yankees fan. Easy to be a fan of a winning team!

View from out seats....oh, and we were stuck behind this young couple sucking face the whole game. Ugh - get a room! And some random guy who was NOT cute hit on me. I had a baseball hat and flip flops on, WTF? Must have been the blue jean mini skirt and low-cut t-shirt with my cleavage :-O I am not an idiot and enjoy it when even losers notice my tits. HeeHeeHee

Yankees win!!!! The scoreboard was right behind us....

Ok, so after the game we went to Stan's - apparently THE Yankee bar that you have to go into. Well, this week is Fleet Week so tons of sailors out. Brett and I have an awesome time people-watching. He cracks me up! NYC is the best place to watch people and make fun of them. I am so going to hell to maybe 1/2 of the things I did and said last night. HA!

More later people - I'm out.

Prospect Park

The biggest park in Brooklyn is not too far away, about 30 min brisk walk. But, way better than the one right by my house. It was designed by the same person who did Central Park. There is a huge open meadow with awesome thick grass. Noble's favorite part was the dog beach :-) There is a large lake too and tons of hiking trails. It was so nice to walk around and not feel like you are in the city. Odd, but nice. And the meadow totally reminded me of Twilight. Or the fact that I was reading Breaking Dawn, again! Below is the main northern entrance...
Which is also where the main Brooklyn Public Library is - very cool building, obviously.

Nobie swimming away. Gotta keep her on leash though after 9am (which I am never anywhere before 9am on my days off). Hope she doesn't get Lepto from the damn water. But, she just loves getting in water, mud, puddles etc. I can't deny her any satisfaction in life.

Awe, the meadow. I can just picture Edward now....
Yes, I am an idiot but what else is new? I have been sunbathing all day on my porch. No motivation to go anywhere today. And I had big plans for cleaning house. That has worked out so well thus far. But, on a good note I have some color to my face and arms and I am almost finished with my book. And I live alone, so no one knows my apartment has animal hair all over it. I win!

What a Rush!

Does anyone think it is weird that I decided to run across the Brooklyn Bridge today? The weather was awesome - sunny, partly cloudy and about 65 degrees - perfect running weather! After I took Noble to the park here by my apartment, I thought "I feel good, that was only a short jog - how about a long run into Manhattan today?" It actually wasn't that long into THE CITY...about 35 minutes. The scenery was wonderful going into Manhattan and tons of people to not run into.Right after you cross over the bridge into Manhattan, you are dumped into City Hall, which I was pleasently suprised to see. Also, a neat little park. I bought some Powerade and started jogging back...

Below is the view of the bridge going back into Brooklyn. Geez, what a rush. I can't wait to start getting into my marathon training again. It is so freaking awesome to just step out your door and run and run and run. I look forward to literally running all over Manhattan once a week for my long runs :-) Wonder how far it is to Central Park from my apartment...stay tuned!

Not much has been happening this week, getting into the work swing and enjoying it. I gave a lecture on seizure disorders in dogs/cats on Wednesday evening in Staten Island - then proceeded to stay out until 4am with my boss and people from work. You gotta love New York! I will give lecture after lecture for free food and drinks ! Not to mention getting to go into work late, heehee. I also saw Manhattan boy again this week, so I am starting to get know SoHo pretty well... Oh, AND I learned what NOT to ever do on a Saturday night....attempt to go to Wal-Mart and Target. UGH - it was the worst experience of my life. But, I had to make my monthly trip for necessaties...just will plan on doing that on a weekday from now on. What the hell else do all these people in Long Island have to do on a Saturday night. *UCK! And only in NYC would the *amn Wal-Mart be connected to a mall!!!!!!
Ok, I vented - I am better. Happy Mother's Day too to all my friends and sisters-in-law :-)

Another 1/2er

I drove out to Long Island yesterday morning and did another 1/2 marathon. This one was way easier! Nice and flat and it was lightly raining for most of it so it kept us all cool. I did my best time yet @ 2 hours 13 minutes. I also took my phone and listened to New Kids on the Block the whole time!!! It was actually a good time. I have to start working up to a whole marathon soon.
Not much else new here. I am looking forward to Brooke moving here, even if only for 6-12 months. Then I will have a partner in crime :-) Lara is visiting next week so I am SURE there will be a couple of blogs about that. Oh, and I went out on my 2nd date with my manhattan man last night. I am freaking loving it here so far and it has only been a few weeks!

My Little Run Through Central Park...

I got up at 5:30am yesterday to take the subway into the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Super nice area, I must add. The picture to the left is of my division of the starting line. I think there were 10,000+ women there to run. I had never been inside Central Park before and it was absolutely awesome! The lake, the boat house, the MET, the merry-go-round. Tons of people chewing you on! It was pretty hot though, they actually cancelled the full marathon due to heat. I didn't do too bad - I did the 13.1 miles in about 2.5 hours :-) Very proud of myself since I wasn't even training for it. I have another 1/2 marathon scheduled for next Sunday in Long Island...stay posted!

The weather here has been awesome. Very hot actually - I turned the AC on this weekend. I am currently sitting on my patio sipping wine and blogging away. Oh, in my bikini top and shorts too, trying very hard to get a bit of a tan. Don't worry - I would NOT be out here in the sisters in the sun if the neighbors were out and about, heehee

Here are so more pictures of Park Ave (with sprind flowers) and the Trump Tower...

Freakin' Awesome Day in NYC

It was incredible outside today. Sunny - a bit humid, but it will only get worse. People everywhere enjoying the weather. I love my apartment complex/building. In the courtyard everyone gets their grills out and socializes all day - I should fit in fine with all the wine :-) I slept in today (finally), had coffee and made breakfast. I did a "quick" walk with Nobie and was very proud that she pissed on the concrete - no tree or grass in site. She is coming along fine! Coke sunned on the patio and meowed his high pitch like normal....

Then me and Nobie ran-walked to the park. She really can't keep up! I have to jog, walk beside her. She does get a bit more animated there though. I let her lay down in the muddy puddle because - she loves dirty water and needed to cool off. Plus, she is a dog and was just having fun. Who I am to say she can't? I am sure everyone looked at me weird. I used my shirt to wipe off most of the mud and threw it in the park trash can. Don't worry - I had on a running tank underneath :-)

I am running a 1/2 marathon in central park tomorrow. It is an all women run - I couldn't sign up for the marathon because it is only over 40!?!?! That is ok though, cuz I am so not even ready for the 13.1 miles I am gonna do tomorrow. I figure it will kick start my "get-my-ass-back-into-gear" mode. I also signed up for a 1/2 marathon in Long Island for next Sunday. That one has boys :-)

So, I took the subway into the city to go to the runner's expo and get my stuff for tomorrow morning. I took my time and walked around 5ht Ave. too. Tons of shops, great sun and just enjoying being in Manhattan. Still kinda weird that it is so close and that I live in NYC!!! Here are a few pics I took at 5th Ave and Broadway. Even with the NYC city tax, I love it here so far - everyone come visit. I can always use a partner in crime!!!!!

Yankees rained out :-(

It rained all day long yesterday, so no baseball. I was really disappointed because I wanted to see the new stadium. I am sure I will wind up going to more than one game there this season anyway....

So, Jeffrey and I went into the city anyway. Bar hopped around Madison Square Gardens / Empire State Building area. The weather was bad, so we didn't actually go to the top of the ESB. But the city does not lack for good bars. This one place had awesome music - 90s !!!

The New York Rangers and the Dallas Mavericks both lost last night. And I only got four hours of sleep....ugh, exhausted. Currently eating left over pizza, waiting for 90210 to start!!!!

Above is Empire State Building from the street - couldn't even see the top of it due to fog & rain.

New Mets Stadium

Jeffrey came to visit - his family lives in Long Island and he is up here for an engagement party...Anyway, he is staying with me to hang out and go to baseball. Ok, drink too. Last night we went out with some people from work, tons of fun. Tonight- pizzeria and who knows. The game was fun, but the Mets lost :-( Yankees tomorrow!

Critters

Coke is enjoying Brooklyn - just give him some sun and he is happy. Thank god for the patio!

Noble is getting used to her twice daily walks. She tends to get a bit tired too quickly I think - we gotta build up her stamina. I tried jogging with her to the park and back, but she was exhausted and dragging (only a 30 minute run!)...
I have never been so amused by my own intimate knowledge of her daily bowel movements. There was no "action" on this morning's walk. This evening I was like "come on! are you ok?" Finally - she dropped a deuce (for lack of a better description). I literally thought "Yea! Way to go Noble". The worst part was that I was a bit DISAPPOINTED in the small size. OMG, I need to go out more.
One more thing - we were walking and I saw her pick something up with her mouth. The look on her face was classic! She stopped and peered over at me : "Did she notice that? Is she paying attention?". Of course I noticed! I am her mother, duh! I made her stop and drop the street trash that turned out to be a chicken wing. Hahaha, sneaky little *itch.
